Everyone ages. It is an inherent part of life. As our bodies and minds develop over time, we adapt to these changes by modifying our decisions and actions. The later years of life can be especially challenging, but The Retreat Care Home is here to help. At The Retreat Care Home, we listen to the needs of our residents in order to understand their limitations and discuss potential solutions. We work with our community members to customize options that will help them lead the lives they want.
The Retreat Care home is owned by Sunshine Care Ltd and has been in the same family since it began in 1998 by Susie & Paul Constantine.
Susie was a registered general nurse who had over 40 years nursing experience in and around the Plymouth area she oversaw and set up all aspects of the business from staff recruitment & training to client care which enabled her small dedicated management team to continue on into this present day with all of her shared knowledge and skills.
We pride ourselves on providing a home from home environment which is tranquil, warm and friendly. The Retreat is a grade II listed building which is over 400 years old, it has character and charm surrounded by beautiful gardens and abundance of nature and wildlife. Situated off the main road you can enjoy peace and quiet without the noise of the traffic.
Registered for a maximum of only 20 residents, we are considered a small home.
We have a unique ‘person-first’ approach to care, meaning we take the time to fully understand someone’s needs and situation, so we can provide appropriate care by fully trained and supervised care workers. We have incredibly high standards when it comes to our care workers and will only employ the very best. We are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and have been rated as “Good”.

Our meals are made to make you feel good. Our extensive research into nutrition and diet means our menus are tailored to promote good health at this stage of life – they’re varied and full of locally sourced high quality ingredients. If you have any special dietary requirements, or preferences, please let us know and we’ll cater to them completely.

Sunshine Care Ltd has proudly taken the memory care pledge with V for Life Charity to help ensure vegetarians & vegans will be offered a choice of foods and drinks that uphold their ethical beliefs.

Many of our community members at The Retreat Care Home require some degree of health and well-being monitoring. Our Care Home provides complimentary and customizable Assisted Living services for all our residents. By catering to the personal needs of each resident, we go just one step further to make everyone feel like they’re truly at home at The Retreat Care Home.

During your stay we will encourage you to lead an active lifestyle. There is a wide choice of things to do, and you can join in with as many or as few as you wish.
Our broad range of enjoyable and stimulating social activities, including shopping trips and outings to local beauty spots and places of interest, ensure that life at The Retreat is anything but dull. Residents can learn new crafts, develop existing hobbies and participate in bridge or enjoyable board games such as scrabble. our visiting speakers and professional entertainers keep us enthused and laughing.

All bedrooms at The Retreat are light and airy with a homely yet modern character with television facility and an emergency call system. The majority are en suite and a couple have their own private balcony overlooking our tranquil gardens.
